The Chicago Prep Bowl is filled with 85 years of Public and Catholic League glory. Tonight, Mount Carmel (8-3) and St. Rita (5-6), both representing the Catholic Blue division, will meet on the gridiron for the right to be called the Chicago Catholic League Champion. The winner of this momentous game will also represent the league in the 86th edition of the Prep Bowl next Friday at Soldier Field.
For the first time since 1964, two historic Louisiana high school powers will collide this Saturday afternoon when 4th ranked John Curtis Christian (6-1, 3-1) hosts top ranked Archbishop Rummel (7-1, 4-0). This matchup has significant importance with playoff seeding and a potential New Orleans Catholic League title on the line.
Bradenton, Florida will be rockin’ tonight when Braden River and Palmetto, both undefeated in district play (3-0), meet on the gridiron for a Sunshine State showdown. With the District 11 championship and postseason berth on the line for Braden River, this game will not disappoint.
After last year’s historic 10-1 season, Braden River is now the second best team in Class 7A.
With the end of the season approaching, many teams are scurrying for the top spot in the Illinois state playoffs. Two of those top teams are rivals, Oak Forest (7-0) and Lemont (6-1). Tonight their inter-conference battle may decide who leads the pack in the South Suburban (Blue) conference. And lucky for you diehard fans, the talented Lemont Stream Team will be live streaming the exciting game on The Cube!
Oak Forest has had a fairly easy season so far, going up against teams below .500; but the Lemont Indians are poised to give Oak Forest a run for their money. However, the Bengal’s high powered offense looks to continue their success against Lemont’s dynamic D, which won’t be an easy feat. You see, the Indian’s defensive line has held five of seven opponents to single TD games. Clearly their strength is no joke… Lemont comes into play with only a scratch on their record, but a loss to Oak Forest will easily turn that measly scratch into an open wound. In this match up, Oak Park-River Forest (#15 in IL) will battle it out against Lyons Township (#23 in IL). The Lions comes into play with a 5-2 record, only having lost to two of the top teams in the state, Hinsdale Central (#7) and Glenbard West (#2). Lyons will look to their 6’5” beast of a left tackle, Taylor Curlin to open holes in the offensive line, while Oak Park will count on the strength of linebacker, Jahmari Moore to shutdown Lyons’ offense. Both teams are eager to bounce back from devastating losses and fight for a top spot in the West Suburban – Silver conference. One will remain among playoff contention and the other may falter at the finish line.
As Barrington aims to bounce back from their first loss of the season, Fremd is desperate to stay afloat after being brutally knocked out of any contention for the top spot in their conference. The Vikings will rely on Michigan State commit, Kenney Lyke, for the speed and skill they’ll need to take down the Barrington powerhouse.
Rivalries are what make high school football, high school football. Of course these important games are exciting for both teams but they also provide entertainment for parents, students and often, entire communities. Skutt Catholic (6-0) hosts Gretna (5-1) in a B District match up that is sure to have players and fans preparing both on and off the field.
